Sealing vs. Polishing vs. Coating

Penetrating sealer (silane/siloxane, lithium silicate)Soaks into the concrete, repels water and salt, reduces dusting, doesn't change the look. Best for driveways, patios, stamped concrete, and new garage slabs you're not ready to coat.

Polished concreteThe slab is mechanically ground with progressively finer diamonds, densified, and polished to a matte, satin, or high-gloss finish. Extremely durable, low maintenance, no coating to peel. Best for retail, warehouses, restaurants, and modern homes.

Should I seal a new garage floor?
Yes, after 28 days, especially before the first winter. Salt scaling starts the first year. A penetrating sealer protects it until you're ready for a coating.
How often should concrete be resealed in Iowa?
Penetrating sealers every 3 to 5 years; decorative acrylic sealers every 2 to 3 years. A simple water-bead test tells you when.
Is polished concrete slippery?
Polished concrete meets standard slip-resistance ratings when dry and can have a grip additive in the final guard coat for wet areas.
Can a pitted floor be polished?
Polishing reveals the slab, so heavy pitting and patches will show. Those floors are better candidates for a flake coating.
