Metallic Epoxy Floors Des Moines

A metallic epoxy floor looks like polished stone, flowing lava, or a marble slab, and no two are ever the same. Colin Coatings installs metallic epoxy floors for basements, garages, showrooms, bars, salons, and living spaces across the Des Moines metro, with a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat so the finish stays clear for years.

What It Is

How Metallic Epoxy Floors Work

Metallic floors start with a 100% solids clear epoxy loaded with mica-based pearlescent pigments. As the epoxy self-levels and cures, the pigments move, settle, and swirl, creating three-dimensional depth and movement. Our installers manipulate the flow with rollers, brushes, air, and solvent accents to create the pattern you choose: marbled, veined, lava, ocean, or a single flowing color. A clear polyaspartic or urethane topcoat locks it in and adds scratch and UV resistance.

Process

How a Metallic Floor Goes In

  1. Design consult. Pick base color, metallic pigments, and pattern style from samples and our portfolio.
  2. Diamond grinding & repair. Metallic floors show every flaw in the slab, so prep is meticulous.
  3. Pigmented base coat. A solid-color epoxy base sets the undertone.
  4. Metallic coat. The clear epoxy with metallic pigment is poured, spread, and manipulated. This is the artistic step and it's done in one pass.
  5. Cure. 24 hours.
  6. Clear topcoat. Polyaspartic or urethane, satin or gloss, with anti-slip additive if desired.

Total: 2 to 3 days. Foot traffic 24 hours after topcoat; furniture in 3 days; vehicles in 5 to 7 days.

Frequently Asked

Metallic Epoxy Questions

Are metallic epoxy floors slippery?
Gloss metallic floors can be when wet. We add a fine anti-slip aggregate to the topcoat for garages, kitchens, and commercial spaces; for basements most homeowners prefer a smooth satin or gloss finish.
Can I pick the exact pattern?
You pick the colors and the style (marbled, veined, lava, flowing). The exact pattern is created during the pour, which is what makes each floor one of a kind. We show reference photos so expectations are clear.
How durable is a metallic floor?
Very. It's a 100% solids epoxy base with a polyaspartic or urethane topcoat, the same materials used in commercial floors. Expect 15+ years with basic care.
Can metallic epoxy go in a garage in Iowa?
Yes, with a polyaspartic topcoat for hot-tire and UV resistance. Popular for collector-car garages in the western suburbs.
How do I clean it?
Dust mop and a neutral cleaner. No abrasive pads.
