Why local matters for a floor coating
Concrete in the Des Moines metro is not all the same, and neither is the right coating spec.
- New-construction suburbs (Waukee, Grimes, Bondurant, north Ankeny, Altoona): slabs are often under a year old and still releasing moisture. We test relative humidity in the slab and, when needed, use a moisture-mitigating primer so the floor doesn't blister.
- Established neighborhoods (Urbandale, Windsor Heights, Beaverdale, older West Des Moines): 40- to 60-year-old garage floors with salt pitting, spalling at the apron, and control-joint cracks. These floors need repair and a full-flake system to hide the patching.
- Acreages and rural edges (Norwalk, Indianola, Adel, Van Meter, Booneville, Prairie City, Polk City): shop and pole-barn floors that take skid loaders, lifts, and equipment. These get high-build epoxy or urethane systems, not a residential garage spec.
