Why So Much Epoxy Flooring in Des Moines Fails
"Epoxy" covers everything from a $60 hardware-store kit to a 1/4-inch industrial floor, and most of what's peeling in Des Moines garages and basements is the cheap end. Professional Epoxy Floor Installation
An epoxy floor is a bonded, seamless resin surface that turns porous concrete into a hard, non-porous, cleanable floor. We install three families of epoxy systems depending on how the floor is used:
Residential Epoxy Floors
Garages, basements, laundry rooms, and workshops. Epoxy base with a polyaspartic topcoat for UV stability, in solid color, flake, or metallic.
Commercial Epoxy Floors
Retail, showrooms, offices, kitchens, and light manufacturing. High-build, slip-resistant, and available in USDA-compliant and low-odor formulations.
Industrial Epoxy & Urethane Cement
Warehouses, shops, wash bays, and food processing. Thick systems (60 mils to 1/4") with quartz or aluminum-oxide broadcast for forklifts, chemicals, and thermal shock.
Self-Leveling & Mortar Systems
For floors that need to be flattened, resurfaced, or rebuilt before they're coated.
When To Call
When Epoxy Flooring Is the Right Choice
The floor takes heavy loads or impact
Epoxy builds thicker than polyaspartic, so it's the better base for shops with lifts, jacks, and dropped tools, and for commercial floors with pallet jacks and carts.
The floor sees chemicals or wash-downs
Epoxy and urethane cement resist oils, solvents, brake fluid, coolant, and cleaning chemicals far better than sealers or paint.
The slab is pitted, rough, or uneven
High-build epoxy fills and levels surface damage that thin coatings would telegraph through.
Budget matters more than cure time
Epoxy costs less per square foot than polyaspartic. If you can give the floor 3 to 7 days to cure and it won't sit in direct sun, an all-epoxy system is a smart buy.
You want a designer metallic floor

All-epoxy system
Primer, 100% solids epoxy base, epoxy or urethane topcoat. Thickest build for the money. Best indoors or where UV exposure is minimal. Cure: light foot traffic 24 hours, vehicles 5 to 7 days.
Epoxy base + polyaspartic topcoat (our default for garages and basements)
The epoxy provides build and adhesion; the polyaspartic topcoat provides UV stability, chemical resistance, and fast return to service. Two-day install, park in 24 to 48 hours after the topcoat.
All-polyaspartic system
Thinner but fastest. One-day install, UV-stable, flexible in the cold. Best for garages that need to be back in service tomorrow. → See polyaspartic floor coatings.
